Problem: From the photographs you can clearly see the main problem in this converted basement is flooding. The reasons for the water ingress into this space are two-fold: Property Conservation Services were called in to conduct a survey of the problems, and present the solutions. The client intended to use the basement for storage, but had been unable to due to the history of flooding.
Works completed: Once the standing water was pumped out and under control, we began by stripping out any affected materials, cleaning down the floors and walls to prepare the room for basement tanking. Tanking treatment began by re-directing the water that could potentially re-enter the basement using Delta Membrane Drainage Channels set into the floor as new concrete was laid. The receiving pumps were located into a new slab that direct any water into existing drains. 8mm basement tanking membrane was affixed to the walls, creating a dry barrier, and durable cavity floor membrane was laid across the new floor and tied into the wall membrane to create a fully sealed basement. Working together with first-fix electricians, we erected new stud walling to the perimeter of the internal space, adding a damp-alarm system with back-up battery to alert the homeowners of any future breaches, and wiring for new lighting. This perfect example of a basement tanking project was completed with a coating of waterproof plaster, and left clean for the homeowners to commence decoration.
