A moisture meter used to measure the moisture levels in a wall
Your home is one of the biggest investments you’ll ever make in your life. Taking care of your property and making sure it remains safe means that over time the value should increase when it comes time sell up or pass it on. Damp problems within your home can pose a reasonable risk to the safety of your property, rot even more so. That’s why Property Conservation Services offers a free survey if you suspect damp or timber problems in your home. With the results from a damp survey, you can begin to plan the next step of making it safe once again.

Here’s what happens during a damp survey:

Step one – contact us There is a simple form to complete on our website pages that asks the following questions:
  • Name
  • Email
  • Mobile phone number
  • Useful information
There is also a link to our privacy policy that clearly explains how we use the information you provide.

Step two – the appointment

One of our office team will get in touch with you to arrange a convenient time for our remedial surveyor to visit. The survey can take between 1 and 2 hours, depending on the extent of the suspected problem. You do not need to be at home for the duration, but you will be required to allow access to your property and all the rooms you are concerned about.

Step three – as soon as possible

Please clear access to the area you suspect to be damp. It is safer for you to do this as soon as you suspect a problem, to protect your furniture and soft furnishings. Our surveyor will need to get close to the structure in question in order to do a comprehensive check, inside and outside of the property.

Step four – the damp survey

On the day of the survey please be available to let our remedial surveyor in and explain your concerns. We use small items of equipment that will not be intrusive or cause any damage to your property. These metres measure the level of moisture in timber and other building materials. The surveyor will complete paperwork during their visit and should be able to give you an idea of what you’re dealing with on the day, however, occasionally we do need take samples of building materials to go for testing if we believe mould spores to be present. While the surveyor is extensively experienced in damp problems, we cannot make a formal diagnosis until any test results are back.

Step five – the recommendation

Within a few days or the surveyor’s visit we will send you the full report of what was inspected and our recommendations for treatment. This step also includes a quote for any timber treatment, condensation control or damp proofing work that we suggest. After that, you can get in touch to arrange for our damp specialists to commence work. During the damp survey we’re not only looking for damp, but for the causes of the damp also, so we can help you prevent any recurring problems.
