Basement Conversion Oxford

Location: Banbury, Oxfordshire

Materials Used:

  • Delta cavity drainage membrane system
  • Delta Membrane
  • Delta sump and pump
  • Delta Alarm System pump

Problem:

This Basement Tanking project was to convert an unused, below ground basement into a new play area for the children to spend with friends. To create extra head room the ceiling was lifted and the existing floor taken down with a new sold floor reinstated.

Due to historic flooding from a nearby spring running through the beautiful village, It was necessary to install a sump and pump in the ground to collect any water that entered the basement due to possible flooding. Property Conservation Services use leading brand products (Delta) used by architect approved project throughout the UK, This means companies know the highest standards are achieved, allowing long guarantee’s to be approved on work once projects are completed.

Property Conservation Services are members of the Property Care Association (PCA) and work under the umbrella that govern the highest standards with Qualified Surveyors that carry out bespoke systems designed to each project. This ensures we adhere to standards of Bs8102 (British Standards document outlining basement waterproofing best practice).

Works completed:

We started by taking the floor joist up for extra head room and removing the existing floor, so that we could install a new floor lower down. The walls were then cleaned down to prevent any debris entering the channel before we fixed an 8mm tanking membrane to all the walls to achieve a dry barrier. This allows water to be directed down via the small cavity in the design of the membrane itself. Delta drainage channeling was then installed at the base of the wall in pre formed channels that lead directly into Delta Pumps. We achieve a dry floor from the installation of a durable cavity floor membrane that ties into the wall membrane creating a full barrier from both the floor and walls. Battens were installed via metal brackets for plywood to be fixed. At this stage we had the electrical work installed for sockets and lighting. To ensure any potential issues are rectified as soon as possible, we also installed alarm systems to the pumps with Battery Backup hardware in case of any problems or if there is a loss of power.
