Why Choose Property Conservation Services Ltd?
We are specialists in transforming damp, unusable basements into warm, dry and fully liveable spaces. With years of hands-on experience, our team has developed a trusted reputation for delivering lasting results in both heritage and modern properties.
Our success stems from utilising the most advanced basement waterproofing membrane systems currently available. High-grade cavity drainage membranes allow water to move behind the system, where it is channelled into a purpose-built drainage and pump solution. The result? A permanently dry basement, guaranteed for 10 years.

Common Signs of Basement Damp
If you notice any of the following, your basement may need professional attention:
- Musty odours or poor air quality
- Peeling paint or plaster
- Visible mould or mildew
- Water staining or tide marks on walls
- Condensation or damp patches
- Efflorescence (white powdery deposits on walls)
Early intervention can prevent long-term damage and costly repairs.
Tanking vs Waterproofing – What’s the Difference?
Tanking involves applying a physical barrier to walls and floors to stop water from entering. It’s ideal for basements with direct contact to the ground.
Waterproofing is a broader approach that may include drainage systems, membranes, and ventilation to manage moisture and prevent ingress.
During our no-obligation survey, we’ll assess your basement and recommend the most effective solution based on its condition and intended use.
Basement Waterproofing Systems
Their are two types of basement waterproofing systems commonly used in existing structures.
Type A Waterproofing Systems
Adhered waterproof membranes or “Type A” waterproofing systems are commonly:
- multi-coat renders
- cement-based coatings
- bituminous paints
- epoxy coatings
This form of waterproofing provides an unbroken barrier to water. These systems are applied to clean walls and floors and are usually protected and held in place by floor screeds, renders, plasters or other “loading coats”.
Type C – Cavity Drainage Systems
Cavity drainage systems or “Type C” waterproofing usually utilise:
- Pre-formed high-density drainage membranes
- Drainage channels
- Sumps
These are designed to direct any water entering the structure back out in a controlled and managed way.
Typically, cavity drain membranes are installed to the walls and floors and these direct water into drainage channels. The channels then allow water to be directed to sumps or drains so that it can be removed safely from the building.
Members of the PCA who specialise in structural waterproofing are able to consider the nature of the building and the client’s design requirements to ensure that the correct method of waterproofing is selected and executed to the highest standard.
