Problem:

This basement Conversion was carried out on a Red Brick Victorian farm house in a beautiful village called Cropedy. The property was built on a natural spring and has the original well the Victorians used for there day to day living.

The basement had a history of flooding amplified by the natural spring and adjacent canal running next to the property. It was the task of Property Conservation Services to transform this once wet and unused space into a newly built addition to the original farm house. Our main focus was to direct and control the water entering the the property using Delta Membrane Drainage Channels set into the newly formed concrete floor.

These channels lead directly into pumps formed into our newly formed slab that fills up with water entering the building and directs water away into existing drains. In addition to the channels, we use Cavity Membranes on all walls which catch moisture and water directing it down into the channels. A floor membrane is then installed to make the space dry and ready for the conversion.

Property Conservation Services are members of the PCA (Property Conservation Association) and work under the umbrella that govern the highest standards with Qualified Surveyors that install bespoke waterproofing systems.

Works completed:

We started by cleaning down the basement wall surfaces to prevent any debris entering the channels and fixed an 8mm tanking membrane to all of the walls to achieve a dry barrier.

This allows water to be directed down via the small cavity in the design of the membrane itself. Delta drainage channeling was then installed at the base of the wall in pre formed channels that lead directly into Delta Pumps. We achieve a dry floor from the installation of a durable cavity floor membrane that ties into the wall membrane creating a full barrier from both the floor and walls.

Battens were installed via metal brackets for plywood to be fixed. At this stage we had the electrical work installed for sockets and lighting. To ensure the system works as needed we also installed alarm systems to the pumps with Battery Backup hardware incase of any problems or loss of power.
