Problem:

The owner of this cottage in Abingdon noticed what appeared to be a damp problem and booked our surveyor to make a comprehensive check. On inspection it was found that penetrating damp was caused by high external ground levels, allowing water to enter the property. This cottage required damp proofing treatment to protect the buildings structure and ensure it remained in other wise good condition.

The risk to properties from penetrating damp can include significant damage to the structure of the building. If left untreated, wet rot can set in and result in fungal decay. Increased moisture within a property can also result in black mould.

Works completed:

With the results of the survey in mind, the first job to complete was to rectify the initial problem and take away the high ground on the outside of the property.

A superior waterproofing product – Delta Kosta NB1 was applied to completely seal the area where damp was entering the building. This product penetrates the surface and is suitable for both new constructions and repair in older properties, and there are no ingredients that could be harmful to the environment.

Delta Geo membrane was then applied to the interior walls with Kosta NB1. Our specialists then formed a raglet joint (continuous groove), at the point where the floor and wall meet. Once again Kosta NB1 was applied to the floor and internal blockwork walls.

The internal walls were then rendered with Natcem tank, a natural cement that acts as a waterproofing mortar. Natcem contains no chemical additives and is environmentally friendly. This render can be plastered within an hour of application, so prevents long delays between treatment and finishing.
